Isn't it ironic, Don't you think?

Two weeks ago I told a student that the flu shot he got was useless. Usually, it just makes you feel sick and you never get the flu anyway. I got the flu this weekend. Now I have a hacking cough and stuffed head. I haven't done anything even close to active in about 4 days. I feel like a melted puddle of chocolate sloth. Hopefully sometime this week I will be able to breath and eventually exercise. Isn't this the most wonderful time of the year?

Today is the day.

I got the email. I can join a "bike team" if I want to for the 2009 season. www.bikeman.com has invited me to join their team. I feel like it would be a good motivator, and that it might help me be a bit more serious about my training. On the other hand, shouldn't I just ride and have fun? I feel like the responsibility of having a "sponsor" means I have to be adult. That sounds a bit less fun, but maybe it will turn out ok. I will just have to see.

Today I ran with the dogs at the dam (this is a rather unexciting pattern) I felt like death. I hope I am not getting sick. That would not be fun.

Oh well.

Prelude and pretzels

Rollers for an hour.  3 sets of one foot pedaling drills. 9 degrees outside.  Awesome.  Yesterday's exercise didn't really deserve a post of its own.  A short hike with students up the frozen and majestic Mount Major in Gilford ( or Alton, I am not sure)  It was fun to hike with kids.  They thought it was crazy.  Tried to teach self arrest techniques.  Ruined my Ibex gloves.   Oh well.

Post ride snack is prelude and pretzels.  It tastes magnificent.

Hunter Safety

After yesterday off, I feel rather sick today.  So, about 5 miles with the dogs at the dam.  I ran into an acquaintance who had a red vest on, as well as a bell on his bike.  Oops.  I guess the place I frequently run at IS open to hunting.  I guess you live and learn.  First time in forever I have worn a HRM.  Not good.  183 bpm to start ( I hope that isn't accurate) then my avg was about 130 ish.
I guess there is lots of room for improvement.

Recovery

Yesterday's 13 miles left me feeling a bit slow today. Running with the dogs at the dam was a good choice. Moderate pace for 45 minutes, with a stop to stretch and enjoy the cold whaleback rock. Want to bring the SS back for winter riding. It would be fun.

Oh boy.

I think I have started to run again. Yesterday, about 8 miles of trail.  Crunchy, icy snow-covered trail.  WWWHHHEEEE!  Today, for some reason, I decided to run 15 miles.  On similar recreation trails, and roads.  Busy roads.  Lots of trucks roads.  Not fun.  Thankfully, my wife picked me up before I could get all the way to the end.  She ran up a mountain and back down, and saw skiers and riders skiing at the top.  She is badass.  We will see how long this running thing lasts.

Winter is here......sort of.

Spent last week skiing as much as I could afford to (Left my wallet at school, only had $180 in cash to cover groceries, gas and other various and sundry items) It turned out to be okay. Saturday, superlight fluff on top of wet ground made for interesting skiing. Sunday, pretty darn good doing laps at MRG for most of the morning. Monday, meh. Wednesday, crusty meh. Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday all got progressively better, with more and more fluff piling up on the crust. Hope Winter break is even better.

Fall Training

Sunday: 2 hour bike ride. Head wind. HEAVY legs. 32oz. of sprite thrown at me from an electric blue, convertible geo prism. Seriously, I understand you are frustrated that you own a CONVERTIBLE, ELECTRIC BLUE GEO PRISM, but do you really need to throw soda at cyclists? I hope the Karma police kick down your door and serve with a notice that your teeth are falling out from the soda you drink.
But, I digress. The ride was actually not bad, found a new loop, with some good climbing.
Monday: All school road race. Woohoo. Legs were even heavier, time was a minute slower than last year. Sore the next day. I need to run more.

Tuesday: Took dogs to the Dam. New shoes, felt good. Ran for 50 minutes, almost non stop. Felt good enough to ride rollers for 3o minutes. Stretch, hydrate...... drink water.
